uture Scapes, a nonprofit focused on urban equity and education, just wrapped up its “Charlotte Urban Redevelopment Neighborhood Tour,” taking Salisbury high‑school and college students through downtown Charlotte’s Brooklyn district. The excursion, part of the organization’s Neighborhood Urban Redevelopment (NURD) program, showcased historic sites, Pearl Street Park, and the Purposeful Walk beside the new Wake Forest Medical School, underscoring how preservation and new development coexist.
After the site visits, participants convened at ImaginOn for a series of talks linking urban policy, real‑estate equity, and career pathways. The session delved into the “Land Planning Process,” tracing a project from concept to completion.
Key speakers included Hy Nguyen, president of Dpr Design, who explained master planning’s role in land development and offered career guidance. Civics.Edu presented on leveraging local policies to shield vulnerable communities from climate and economic pressures.
