iami-Dade prosecutors have filed a vessel homicide charge against real estate broker George Pino in connection with a 2022 boat crash near Boca Chita Key that killed a 17-year-old girl and left another seriously injured. The incident occurred on September 4 when Pino, 52, lost control of his 29-foot Robalo boat while returning to the dock after celebrating his daughter's birthday.
Pino was operating the vessel with 14 passengers, including several teenage girls, who were thrown into the water during the crash. Authorities found a large quantity of empty alcoholic containers on board but concluded that alcohol did not contribute to the accident.
In related news, Pino had previously been charged with three misdemeanors for the boat collision and his wife was ordered to pay $16 million to the family of one of the injured passengers as part of a lawsuit settlement. The case remains under investigation as prosecutors pursue the upgraded charge.
