Bellmead Stylist Retires After Decades, Sells Salon to Realty Firm

Alice January shuts down Alice's Beauty Shop after 47 years of community service.

ELLMEAD, Texas – Alice January has operated Alice’s Beauty Shop on Bellmead Drive since she was 18, opening the salon in 1978 to serve the local community. “We offered haircuts, perms, highlights, colors—just a little bit of everything,” she recalls. After four decades, she is closing the doors. Her husband, Steve January, a chief deputy with the McLennan County Sheriff’s Office, died of pancreatic cancer two years ago. Now she plans a fresh start.

January listed the building for sale in April and is grateful for the relationships built with clients. “The first three years were about establishing a loyal clientele; thereafter it was simple. I’ve been blessed repeatedly by wonderful people,” she said.

The property has been purchased by The Agents of Texas Real Estate Brokerage. Cameron Gomez, the new owner, expressed enthusiasm for the opportunity and a commitment to honor January’s legacy. “She’s been a pillar in the community for a long time, and I’m eager to step into her shoes and keep the space welcoming,” Gomez said.

January will continue styling hair from her home or at clients’ locations. The Agents of Texas expect to occupy the former salon by spring. © 2025 KWTX. All rights reserved.
