U
.S. Senator Jon Ossoff is probing four large corporations that have been buying up single-family homes in Georgia, a practice he claims is driving up prices and pricing out local families. The investigation targets Invitation Homes, Main Street Renewal, Tricon Residential, and Progress Residential, seeking information on their home purchases, rental fees, and other related details.Ossoff argues that these out-of-state companies are dominating the market, making it difficult for Georgia residents to afford homes or rent. He's calling for answers from these corporations, which he believes are contributing to rising housing costs and shrinking homeownership opportunities.A 2023 investigation by the Atlanta Journal-Constitution found that these firms have converted family homes into rental properties, exacerbating the problem. According to a Government Accountability Office report, one in every four single-family rental homes in metro Atlanta is now owned by these companies. Similar trends are emerging in other Southeastern Georgia counties.Ossoff has been an advocate for affordable housing and has taken steps to address the issue, including convening a Senate hearing on tenant mistreatment and co-sponsoring legislation to help first responders, teachers, and veterans access home loans.Georgians who have been unable to purchase homes due to large corporations are encouraged to share their stories at ossoff.senate.gov/homestory.
