Global Livability Index: Top Cities Ranked

Copenhagen tops Economist's liveability index, but Asia Pacific cities dominate top 10.

C
openhagen has taken the top spot as the most liveable city in the world, surpassing Vienna according to The Economist Intelligence Unit's Global Liveability Index 2025. However, five of the top 10 cities are located in the Asia Pacific region.

Western Europe remains a leader in liveability, achieving high scores across four categories and narrowly trailing North America for education. Yet, its stability score has declined due to increased terrorism threats, riots, and antisemitic attacks.

North America's average overall score slipped slightly (to 90.4) in the latest survey, mainly due to decreased healthcare scores for Canadian cities. The unresolved debate over funding for Canada's national health service contributed to this decline. Meanwhile, the US faces potential cuts to public education spending under the Trump administration.
