Google Co-Founder's Former CEO Lands LA Mansion Bigger Than Taj Mahal

Schmidt's LA purchase, spanning 56,000 square feet, ties for second priciest home sale of 2025.

E
ric Schmidt, the former CEO of Google, has acquired Spelling Manor for $110 million. The property spans over 56,000 square feet and is one of the largest homes in Los Angeles, rivaling the White House and Taj Mahal in size. The estate, known as Candyland after its previous owners Aaron and Candy Spelling, sits on 4.6 acres and boasts a two-lane bowling alley, multiple gift-wrapping rooms, and 27 bathrooms.

The mansion has changed hands several times since its construction in 1988 by TV producer Aaron Spelling. Petra Ecclestone sold it to an unidentified buyer for $120 million in 2019, but Schmidt's purchase is now tied for the second most expensive home sale of 2025. The property was listed for $137.5 million before being sold.

Schmidt plans a major remodel and rebranding of the Manor, simplifying its floor plan and making it more energy efficient. He reportedly intends to rename it "594" after its Mapleton Drive address. The Schmidts will use the property for philanthropic events, hosting meetings and gatherings for local nonprofits. This acquisition adds to their portfolio of trophy homes across several US cities and London.
