High-end homeowners prioritize eco-friendly living spaces

Some luxury homeowners in the region have integrated solar panels, battery storage and energy management systems for additional power and comfort.

T
he Las Vegas Valley enjoys an average of 300 sunny days per year, making it an ideal location for luxury homeowners to incorporate solar power into their homes. Many high-end residents have invested in photovoltaic solar panels, battery energy storage systems, and active energy-management applications to enhance their living spaces.

Federal laws have impacted the solar industry, with the repeal of the Inflation Reduction Act of 2022 and the discontinuation of a 30% federal Investment Tax Credit for residential home solar power installations. This change will increase the payback period for solar panels in Nevada from 6.3 years to nine years without the tax credit. However, the Investment Tax Credit for Battery Energy Storage Systems remains intact.

Custom builders in the Las Vegas Valley are adapting to these changes by prioritizing energy efficiency and incorporating smart technology into their designs. Daniel Coletti, owner of Sun West Custom Homes, emphasizes the importance of energy efficiency in designing homes that can effectively utilize battery storage systems. His company's luxury homes feature photovoltaic solar panels, backup battery storage systems, and active-energy management systems.

Tyler Jones, CEO of Blue Heron Design Build, incorporates biophilic features into his designs to create a natural sense of well-being and comfort. He pre-wires his luxury homes for future expansion of solar power and battery storage systems, allowing homeowners to add these features later if desired.

Nevada State Legislature has passed new laws affecting the installation of rooftop solar panels and battery storage systems. Senate Bill 132 provides funding for the Nevada Clean Energy Fund's Solar For All program, while Assembly Bill 458 aims to integrate affordable housing projects with solar power. SB 379 strengthens protections for solar buyers, and SB 440 streamlines the solar power installation process for homeowners living in HOAs.

When working with a solar power installation contractor, it is essential to choose a licensed professional with a good track record of work and fair payment options. A homeowner should also arrange an in-person home assessment by the installer to ensure a customized system that meets their energy needs. The contract should include specific details about the components, installation timeline, warranties, and follow-up service support.

Eco-friendly luxury homes in upscale neighborhoods prioritize sustainable living and green design.
