Houston Couple Accused of Falsifying Documents to Control 35 Properties

New lawsuit alleges couple used fake documents to steal dozens of properties.

A
sprawling investigation into real estate fraud has been launched in Harris County after a lawsuit was filed against a Houston couple. The suit, which seeks over $1 million in damages, accuses Alba and Jarin Martinez of forging documents to steal at least 35 properties across the county.

Harris County Attorney Christian D. Menefee is leading the investigation, which has been ongoing for months. A previous report by ABC13 highlighted the case of a Houston artist who had his property stolen with forged documents. The couple allegedly faked ownership of several properties, victimizing legitimate homeowners and tricking unsuspecting buyers out of hundreds of thousands of dollars.

The lawsuit outlines dozens of instances where the Martinez's allegedly used fake documents to claim ownership of properties. Menefee stated that his office is taking decisive action to shut down the operation and restore properties to their rightful owners. The suit also seeks civil penalties of up to $250,000 per violation in cases involving elderly victims.

A lawyer representing one of the victims praised the lawsuit, saying it will help pursue claims against the Martinez's fraudulent schemes. The couple has previously claimed that some of the allegations were a mistake, but the lawsuit aims to hold them accountable for their actions.
