K
aty Perry testified in a Los Angeles courtroom on Tuesday, answering questions about her involvement in a long-standing dispute over a $15 million California mansion she owns with ex-partner Orlando Bloom. When asked if she stood to gain financially from the trial, Perry replied simply "Justice." Her lawyer, Eric Rowen, objected to several questions as irrelevant, including those that seemed aimed at drawing attention away from the case.
Perry acknowledged that she and Bloom bought the mansion in 2020, but claimed they intended to live there, not rent it out. However, renters including actor Chris Pratt's family are central to this trial. Perry testified that she could have paid for the mansion outright, but chose to take out a mortgage instead.
The dispute began when the seller, Carl Westcott, claimed he was not mentally competent to make the deal and sued to undo it. Perry's side prevailed in the first trial, but Westcott countersued over lost rental income and maintenance costs. The current trial is focused on those claims.
Perry's testimony also touched on her relationship with Bloom, whom she described as "family for life." When asked about a remodel of the house, she said she acted as "partner and adviser." Perry's lawyer objected to several questions about Bloom, which Superior Court Judge Joseph Lipner kept to a minimum.
The trial is expected to continue for two more days, with no jury present. Perry's testimony came on the fourth day of proceedings, during which her own lawyer declined to cross-examine her.
