Commercial Brokers International leads effort to bring air taxis to Southern California by 2028 Summer Olympics.

I
n a bid to revolutionize urban travel, Commercial Brokers International and UK-based Skyports are joining forces to establish eight vertiport sites across Los Angeles. These specialized terminals will support electric vertical takeoff and landing aircraft, cutting hour-long drives into 10-minute flights.

The ambitious project aims to transform the city's transportation landscape ahead of the 2028 Olympics, with vertiports situated on rooftops, parking structures, and industrial parcels. Skyports plans to operate these mini-airports, while third-party aviation companies will manage the aircraft, which are expected to resemble large drones and may eventually be pilotless.

The Federal Aviation Administration's recent approval of operational regulations for eVTOLs has paved the way for commercial rollout, backed by industry giants like Boeing and Airbus. The partnership between Commercial Brokers International and Skyports is a significant step towards making urban air mobility a reality in Los Angeles.

With locations under consideration including connections between LAX, Downtown LA, Santa Monica, Orange County, Palm Springs, and Santa Barbara, the project has garnered strong local interest, with partnerships already established with institutions like USC and the LA Rams. If completed on time, Los Angeles could emerge as a national leader in urban air mobility, boasting a high-profile customer base for the Olympics.

The vertiport designs, which can adapt to urban environments, are currently being tested internationally, while developers are optimistic about meeting FAA regulations and accessibility standards despite challenges such as requiring substantial power – up to 4,000 amps of clean electricity.
