om Hanks can breathe a sigh of relief as his Pacific Palisades home has been spared from the devastating Los Angeles wildfires that ravaged the city this week. The 68-year-old actor's residence, situated high in the hills of the Pacific Palisades, appears to have survived unscathed.
Aerial photos taken on Wednesday show Hanks' clifftop mansion intact, while the home behind it was not so lucky, still smoldering from the flames. The Palisades Fire has decimated whole streets, leaving many residents without homes.
Hanks is one of several celebrities who have homes in the upscale Pacific Palisades community. His son Chet Hanks shared his grief on Instagram, writing "The neighborhood I grew up in is burning to the ground" and urging people to pray for the area.
While Hanks has been spared, many other Angelenos, including Anthony Hopkins, Billy Crystal, Spencer Pratt, Heidi Montag, Adam Brody, and Leighton Meester, have lost their homes to the fires. The blazes have scorched approximately 30,000 acres, forced tens of thousands to flee, and caused an estimated $52-57 billion in damages, making them the costliest in Los Angeles history.
The causes of the fires are still unknown and are being investigated by city authorities.
