15,000-square-foot Lake Forest mansion has changed hands after nearly five decades under the same ownership. The historic Suffield House sold for $5.7 million to an undisclosed buyer, who was represented by Mona Hellinga of @properties Christie's International Real Estate. The sale price translates to $380 per square foot, a significant reduction from its initial asking price of $10 million in September 2022.
The property, situated on 5.4 acres at 255 North Green Bay Road, has been preserved largely unchanged since the 1930s when it was built for Chicago's Lolita Armour. The Casati family, who acquired the estate in 1971, made minimal updates to maintain its historical integrity. As a result, the home retains much of its original craftsmanship and charm.
The sale is one of several notable transactions on Lake Forest's North Shore this year, including a $6.27 million sale of an estate on Mayflower Road and a $28 million listing at 595 Circle Lane. The market has seen a surge in luxury listings, with properties like the $7.5 million Onwentsia Road estate and the $12 million Lake Michigan estate along Bluffs Edge Drive also hitting the market recently.
