A
woman in Stow, Ohio, fell victim to a real estate scam when trying to purchase a home on Friday. Taylor Greene had been communicating with a man claiming to be James Duran through phone calls and texts about a property listed on Ebay as available for rent, rent-to-buy, or sale.
Greene was told she needed to pay fees to the Home Owner's Association to secure the property, so she made multiple payments totaling $1,102 via the Chime mobile banking app. After paying, Duran instructed her to visit the property, which he remotely unlocked as she arrived. However, once she left the property, Duran stopped responding to her messages.
Greene's investigation revealed that the property was actually owned by Open Door Trust Real Estate, a company with no knowledge of James Duran or involvement in the sale. The incident is currently under investigation.
