Garden City attorney has pleaded guilty to a $5 million fraud scheme, according to Nassau County District Attorney's office. Daniel Boldi admitted to 13 counts of second-degree grand larceny and one count of first-degree scheme to defraud in connection with defrauding 46 real estate transactions between September 2020 and January 2024.
Boldi faces up to three to nine years in prison, plus $1 million in partial upfront restitution. If he fails to pay the full amount by sentencing, his prison time could increase to four to 12 years. He will also lose his law license.
District Attorney Anne Donnelly described Boldi's actions as "elaborate schemes" that defrauded nearly four dozen people out of over $5 million. The plea is seen as a step towards restoring the victims' financial losses.
Boldi committed escrow thefts totaling over $4.6 million from individuals, real estate agents, and entities who worked with him on property sales or purchases. In one scheme, he falsely told a couple that mortgage funds were not available for their home sale, leading to a "dry closing" and the release of the deed.
The couple was left making mortgage payments on a home they no longer owned. Boldi also embezzled $1.15 million from a private lender through two loan thefts between 2020 and 2023. He used the stolen funds for personal expenses, including Venmo payments and property investments.
Boldi is due back in court for sentencing on April 17, 2025.
