D
onald Trump's Commerce Secretary nominee, Howard Lutnick, is set to become a Washington D.C. homeowner despite awaiting confirmation. Lutnick has entered into a contract to purchase 2400 Foxhall Road NW from Bret Baier, the Fox News anchor, for $29 million. The deal is expected to close this week.

Baier and his wife Amy originally paid $5.4 million for the property in 2018 and spent nearly $25 million renovating it into a 16,000-square-foot French Château-style home with five bedrooms and eight bathrooms. Features of the estate include a marble fountain, temperature-controlled wine room, game room, putting green, and indoor sports court.

The sale would break the 17-year-old record for a residential deal in D.C., surpassing a $24 million transaction in Georgetown. Lutnick owns several properties, including a penthouse on the Upper East Side and an estate in the Hamptons. The Baiers, meanwhile, have moved to Palm Beach, where they purchased a non-waterfront house for $37 million last year.

Residential brokers in D.C. are preparing for an influx of wealthy government officials as Trump prepares to return to the presidency next month. This new administration brings a cohort of high-net-worth industry leaders to the nation's capital, potentially driving up demand for luxury properties like Lutnick's new purchase.
