A
$50 million penthouse is set to debut at the revamped Surrey hotel on Manhattan's Upper East Side. The 5,200-square-foot duplex is the priciest residence in the historic building, which has undergone a three-year restoration led by Reuben Brothers.
The Surrey, once a hub for high-society figures like President John F. Kennedy and actresses Bette Davis and Ethel Merman, had fallen into disrepair before being purchased by Reuben Brothers in 2020 for $150 million. The family-run firm has restored the building to its former glory, with interiors designed to reflect its 1920s heritage.
The penthouse features three bedrooms, expansive private terraces, and custom casement windows, while the kitchen blends modern sophistication with heritage design. Residents of the Surrey's luxury condos enjoy exclusive access to the hotel's spa, fitness center, and priority key-fob access to elevators.
Despite a fluctuating Manhattan market, Jamie Reuben remains optimistic about the Surrey's appeal to buyers seeking iconic addresses with unique histories. "For the right product and the right location, there are buyers," he said. The Surrey's past is a glamorous one, but its future looks bright as it reopens its doors as "The Surrey, a Corinthia hotel."
