aine's gubernatorial race is growing, with a new candidate entering the fray. David Jones, a Falmouth real estate agent, announced his bid for governor on Tuesday. Jones has lived in Maine since the late 1990s and expressed his love for the state, but also criticized its current leadership. He joins a crowded field of Republican candidates, including Bobby Charles, Steven Sheppard, and Robbert Wessels.
On the Democratic side, Secretary of State Shenna Bellows, Angus King III, and Kenneth Pinet are vying for the top spot. Independent candidate Alexander Murchison is also running, while incumbent Janet Mills is term-limited out of a second bid.
