Marc Lasry Lists NYC Penthouse for $42M in Iconic Ghostbusters Building

Who you gonna call? The brokers behind his 55 Central Park West listing.

5 Central Park West, the Art‑Deco tower that doubled as the Ghostbusters set, is now listed for $42 million. The sellers, billionaire financier Marc Lasry and his wife Cathy, bought the duplex in 2013 for $33 million after Lasry was linked—though denied—to a Russian‑run poker and money‑laundering scandal that reportedly cost him an ambassadorship. Lasry, a long‑time poker player, has said the unfortunate associations were mere bad luck.

The landmarked building sits between 65th and 66th Streets and has housed notable residents: music mogul Stephen Gottlieb, fashion icon Calvin Klein, and Hollywood producer Keith Barish—who once traded a Jasper Johns flag for the property. Barish, co‑founder of Planet Hollywood, produced films such as “Sophie’s Choice” and “The Fugitive.”

The 12‑room penthouse covers 5,000 sq ft of interior space, with an additional 2,200 sq ft of outdoor area on the 19th and 20th floors. A private elevator leads to a 19th‑floor foyer, where a grand living room with a wood‑burning fireplace opens onto a terrace and a main bedroom that features French doors to the terrace, a fireplace, dressing room, and ensuite bath. A chef’s kitchen with pantry and laundry, a home office, and two more bedrooms with ensuite baths complete the layout.

A curved staircase ascends to a double‑height tower room on the 20th floor, boasting a wood‑paneled library, 14‑foot ceilings, a fireplace, and a wet bar. The top floor also offers a solarium that opens onto a corner terrace overlooking Central Park, providing more than 300 ft of park view.

Douglas Elliman and Compass, the listing agencies, declined to comment, noting that this is the first time the residence has appeared on the market in 12 years.
