Massive 2.5 million claims filed in commission disputes

Home sellers may receive up to $250 from a $1 billion settlement fund.

H
ome sellers who filed claims by the May 9 deadline in the buyer agent commissions lawsuits may receive around $250 each from a settlement fund worth over $1 billion. According to a quarterly update, JND Legal Administration LLC received more than 2.5 million claim submissions after sending out over 100 million emails and 38 million postcards. The company also staffed contact center representatives who handled over 25,000 calls and 30,000 emails.

The settlement fund will be reduced by one-third for attorney fees and nearly $32.8 million for notification services, leaving around $630 million. If the number of accepted claims is approximately 2.5 million, each claimant could receive around $250. However, there are still hurdles to address before final checks can be sent out, including a review by the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Eighth Circuit expected early next year.

Home sellers who missed the deadline may still submit a claim, but it's unclear whether it will be accepted. The remaining settlement fund will be distributed among eligible claimants once the court's decision is made.
