McKinney to welcome 800-acre mixed-use development project

McKinney City Council to vote on rezoning 800-acre property for Huntington Park development.

A
massive master-planned development is underway in McKinney, Texas. The city's City Council will vote on rezoning a 786-acre property on the northwest side of town, which would bring thousands of new homes, apartments, and commercial space to the area. If approved, developer Billingsley Co. can begin construction on Huntington Park.

The plans call for 375 acres of single-family homes, 92 acres of apartments, 175 acres of commercial development, and open spaces, floodplains, and roads. The project is expected to generate $2 billion in value, with taxes for the city of McKinney projected at $9 million yearly once fully built out.

The community will feature a mix of housing types, including single-family homes, brownstone-style townhomes, and traditional apartments. Amenities such as pickleball courts, retail developments, and parks are also planned. Developer Lucy Billingsley said the goal is to create a vibrant community that attracts corporations and residents alike.

However, multifamily development cannot begin until certain regulatory triggers are met, including the completion of 12 acres of commercial development near Stonebridge Drive and Bloomdale Road. The company is waiting for these triggers to ensure infrastructure is in place before starting multifamily construction.
