Minnesota judge has sentenced Elsa Segura to 20 years in prison for her role in the 2019 killing of Minneapolis real estate agent Monique Baugh. As part of a plea deal, Segura pleaded guilty to kidnapping with intent to commit great bodily harm or terrorize. The conviction was overturned by the state Supreme Court earlier this year due to faulty jury instructions.
Segura had been found guilty of murder and other charges in 2021, but those convictions were also overturned. Prosecutors say Baugh was lured to a fake home showing where she was kidnapped and later found fatally shot in a Minneapolis alley. The killing was allegedly part of a revenge scheme against Baugh's boyfriend, Jon Mitchell-Momoh, who had a falling out with Segura's romantic partner Lyndon Wiggins.
Wiggins is currently being held in the county jail and faces retrial after his conviction was also overturned by the Supreme Court. Two other defendants accused of kidnapping Baugh have been sentenced to life in prison without parole.
