NAR fulfills pledge to plant 1.5M trees

Commitment to Sustainability: Reforestation in 10 States

T
he National Association of REALTORS® has demonstrated a strong commitment to environmental sustainability by planting trees in 10 states facing environmental challenges. This initiative is part of NAR's pledge to plant 1.575 million trees by the end of 2025, which is 18 months ahead of schedule.

In Minnesota's Chippewa National Forest, NAR has successfully planted an additional 360,000 trees this summer, bringing the total number of trees planted to date to 736,000. This achievement is a significant step towards fulfilling NAR's pledge.

NAR partnered with the National Forest Foundation to plant these trees as part of their sustainability pledge. This year, a total of 550,000 pine, spruce, and oak trees were planted across California, Minnesota, and Michigan, helping to restore wooded areas destroyed by wildfires and affected by other environmental issues.

The Boise National Forest in Idaho was one of the areas most affected by wildfires, with about 190,000 acres burned. NAR responded by planting Ponderosa pine and Douglas fir trees in these scorched areas, providing habitat for native species and helping to regenerate the forest.

The impact of NAR's initiative was far-reaching, benefiting forests in 10 states. This effort not only helps restore the country's forests and biodiversity but also supports NAR's broader sustainability objectives, which aim to protect communities for generations to come, particularly in the face of climate change.

As a result of this initiative, NAR will cut 750,000 metric tons of carbon from the atmosphere, equivalent to the amount of carbon produced by 161,602 cars annually, according to EPA calculations. This will significantly improve air quality and mitigate stormwater, while also encouraging biodiversity and enhancing habitats for local communities and the planet as a whole.
