wildfire continues to burn out of control near Churchill Falls in central Labrador. As of Friday morning, the fire was estimated to be around 170 hectares in size and moving east, away from the town. The provincial government has confirmed that crews and two water bombers were deployed to combat the blaze.
The Trans-Labrador Highway has been closed due to the fire, which is currently under an extreme fire risk warning. Wabush Mayor worries about the firefighting capacity in the area, citing concerns about the ability to respond to multiple fires at once.
Meanwhile, other parts of the province are also experiencing high and very high wildfire risks, with many areas ranked as extreme by the provincial fire rating hazard map.
