ew Jersey's reputation as a hub for high-end housing has taken a significant leap forward. According to PropertyShark's study of the US real estate market, six of its ZIP codes have cracked the top 100 most expensive zip codes in America, setting a new record.
The Garden State's ascent in the luxury housing market began several years ago, but this year marks a major milestone. In 2024, New Jersey surpassed its previous record of five ZIP codes on the list, with Alpine leading the charge as the 24th most expensive zip code nationwide. The median home price in Alpine jumped to $3.32 million, fueled by a jaw-dropping $16.7 million sale in July.
Other Jersey Shore towns are also experiencing significant growth. Deal, Monmouth County, skyrocketed from 70th place last year to 32nd this year, with the median sales price surging from $2.1 million to $2.95 million. Avalon climbed to 41st place, with homes selling for an average of $2.75 million.
While some towns experienced slight declines, Mantoloking landed at 59th with a median home price of $2.36 million. Short Hills slipped slightly to 93rd place but still boasted a median price of $1.95 million. On the national front, Atherton, California, retained its title as the most expensive ZIP code for the eighth consecutive year.
The data is based on residential real estate deals closed between January and September 2024, covering condos, co-ops, and single- and two-family homes in ZIP codes with at least five sales.
