T
he Crocker-McMillin Mansion in Mahwah has returned to the market as New Jersey's highest-priced home for sale, listed at $33 million. The 50,000-square-foot Jacobean-style estate sits on nearly 12.5 acres and boasts 58 rooms, including a 3,000-square-foot great hall with a 30-foot ceiling that houses an original 1906 Aeolian player pipe organ.
Built between 1903 and 1907 by George Crocker at a cost of about $2 million, the mansion was sold in 1909 to Emerson McMillin for $780,000. The estate has had several owners since, including the Archdiocese of Newark, which used it as an Immaculate Conception Seminary from 1926 until 1984.
The current owner has made significant updates, adding a new guest house with three bedrooms and two bathrooms, a gym, and security features. The home also includes a spa with a sauna, lap pool, massage room, steam shower, and salon, as well as 24-hour security with interior and exterior cameras.
According to listing agent Diane Cookson, the property has generated significant interest since its relisting on January 2, with several inquiries and showings already scheduled. The home's unique blend of history, architecture, and luxury amenities makes it an attractive option for those seeking a private and spacious retreat.
