New Observation Deck Takes Center Stage at Former Hancock Tower Site

Chicago's 875 North Michigan Avenue tower gets a makeover, expanding its observation deck to the 95th and 96th floors.

A
former fine-dining space in one of Chicago's tallest towers is undergoing a major transformation. France-based Magnicity, the parent company of 360 Chicago, is expanding its observation deck to include the 95th and 96th floors of 875 North Michigan Avenue, formerly known as the John Hancock Center.

The renovation will convert the former Signature Room restaurant and lounge into immersive attractions and a 14,000-square-foot private event venue. This project marks one of the most extensive interior renovations in the building's 56-year history, with construction expected to take 18-24 months.

"This is a testament to our confidence in the future of the Magnificent Mile," said Nichole Benolken, managing director of 360 Chicago. "The Mag Mile is gaining momentum, and we're doubling down on experience-driven tourism."

Magnicity brought in global design firm WB-Immersive to craft a new visitor experience, while architecture firm Skidmore, Owings & Merrill will lead the renovation. The project includes adding a grand staircase and replacing windows across all three floors for clearer views of the skyline and lakefront.

The expansion comes as Magnicity looks to capitalize on the growing demand for immersive attractions, which are seen as more resilient to retail headwinds than traditional stores or restaurants. The new space will not include any dining options.
