oston's Nitsch Engineering has been awarded a National Recognition Award by the American Council of Engineering Companies (ACEC) for its groundbreaking work on the Green Infrastructure Handbooks. This achievement is part of the 58th annual Engineering Excellence Awards, which celebrate engineering projects that push boundaries and drive innovation.
The handbooks, developed in collaboration with the Boston Water and Sewer Commission, provide a comprehensive resource for property owners and developers to implement green infrastructure solutions. The Planning and Design Handbook, released in 2021, offers technical guidance and strategies for integrating green infrastructure into new developments, while its companion, the Operations and Maintenance (O&M) Handbook, provides detailed maintenance protocols and inspection checklists.
Boston's unique infrastructure constraints made this project particularly significant. With limited publicly owned land available for large-scale stormwater solutions, the commission sought to inspire private property owners to adopt sustainable practices. The handbooks serve as a crucial step toward this goal, equipping stakeholders with practical solutions for urban water management.
This recognition places Nitsch Engineering among the top engineering firms nationwide, competing for additional honors in the ACEC awards program. The winners will be celebrated at the EEA Gala on May 20, 2025, at the Grand Hyatt in Washington, D.C.
The ACEC's annual Engineering Excellence Awards highlight the critical role engineers play in advancing infrastructure, environmental sustainability, and economic development across the U.S. For Nitsch Engineering, this recognition reinforces its reputation as a leader in sustainable infrastructure solutions, driving innovation in green infrastructure and resilience planning through its expertise in civil, transportation, and structural engineering, as well as land surveying, planning, and GIS services.
