e're seeking a skilled reporter to cover Long Island's commercial real estate market and retail industry. The ideal candidate will break news, spot trends, and develop enterprise stories that inform our readers about the forces shaping our local economy.
Responsibilities include tracking commercial developments, store openings and closings, and identifying smart enterprise stories. You'll work closely with editors to monitor metrics and apply data to inform coverage, while also collaborating with a retail reporter to ensure well-rounded coverage of the retail sector.
To succeed in this role, you'll need:
* 3+ years of reporting experience, preferably in business journalism
* Proven ability to break news, meet deadlines, and deliver high-impact stories
* Strong storytelling abilities, attention to detail, and a knack for spotting trends
* Proficiency in multimedia tools, including smartphone photo and video, and digital platforms
* Excellent communication skills, a collaborative mindset, and the ability to work well under tight deadlines
This is a hybrid position with a 3-day-per-week in-office requirement. You'll need a driver's license and reliable transportation for travel throughout Long Island and surrounding areas.
