eality TV star and real-estate broker Fredrik Eklund has purchased a $3.35 million condo at 64 University Place, according to city records filed this week. The under-the-radar building sold out quickly, with units selling off-market and sight unseen.
Eklund's fourth-floor unit spans around 1,400 square feet, featuring two bedrooms and 2½ bathrooms. Although Miami is now his primary residence, this will be his New York base. "We're currently working on the closets and interiors," Eklund said.
The building boasts 28 units, with two $20 million penthouses that come with terraces and sold for over $5,000 per square foot. Units feature hardwood floors, high ceilings, and arched double windows opening to Juliet balconies.
Eklund's business partner at Douglas Elliman, John Gomes, also purchased a unit in the building as an investment. Building perks include a "secret" garden with a waterfall, a gym, lounge, rooftop kitchen, and 24-hour doorman.
"This will be one of downtown's 'it' buildings," Eklund said. "It has the romance of old New York, but with modern amenities." There's already a wait list of 150 people interested in renting or purchasing a unit.
