Retrial Ends with Guilty Verdict for Man Who Planned Agent's Murder

He arranged 2019 New Year's Eve kidnapping and murder of a Minneapolis agent; convicted on all counts in second trial.

L
ydon Akeem Wiggins, 40, was found guilty on all four charges in his second trial for the 2019 kidnapping and murder of Minneapolis real‑estate agent Monique Baugh. The jury convicted him of two counts of aiding and abetting first‑degree murder, one count of aiding and abetting first‑degree attempted murder, and one count of aiding and abetting kidnapping to commit great bodily harm. He faces life imprisonment without parole at sentencing on Nov. 13.

The case had previously ended with a life sentence, but the Minnesota Supreme Court overturned the verdict, citing a judge’s incorrect jury instructions. A second trial, lasting three weeks, concluded with the same guilty verdict.

Hennepin County Attorney Mary Moriarty said the family had waited nearly six years for the case to close. “Mr. Wiggins played a primary role in Monique’s death, and he is being held accountable,” she added, thanking the jury and the trial team.

Wiggins allegedly conspired with girlfriend Elsa Segura and friends Cedric Berry and Berry Davis to abduct and kill Baugh. A dispute over a record‑label deal with Baugh’s boyfriend sparked the plot. Segura pretended to be a potential buyer to lure Baugh to a house showing; she did not appear, but Berry and Davis did. They bound Baugh, loaded her into a U‑Haul, and shot her in a Minneapolis alley.

All three co‑defendants had earlier received life sentences. In January 2024, the Supreme Court overturned Segura’s conviction, arguing prosecutors failed to prove she knew Berry and Davis intended to kill Baugh. Wiggins’ conviction was reversed less than two months later. Segura, a former Hennepin County probation officer, eventually pleaded guilty to kidnapping and received a 20‑year sentence.
