Richmond audit uncovers errors in real‑estate rebates

City sent thousands of wrong payments, overpaying by over $100,000.

R
ICHMOND, Va. – An audit uncovered further flaws in Richmond’s real‑estate rebate program, sending thousands of wrong payments to residents last year. The finance office issued rebates to incorrect recipients in March and, per the auditor, overpaid $100,000 while underpaying $80,000. A second rebate batch also contained errors. Corrections await a review of sales transfers.
