ockland County has acquired 103 acres of forested land in Sloatsburg through the Highlands Conservation Act Program, administered by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service Office of Conservation Investment. The property was purchased from Solo Group Holdings for $2.225 million, with funding assistance from New York State's Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation.
The acquisition is part of Rockland County's long-term plan to preserve land in the Hudson Highlands Region. The property will be incorporated into the Rockland County Parks System and protected in perpetuity, preserving critical natural resources and habitats in the region.
In other news, the Town of Ramapo has received $10 million from the Mid-Hudson Momentum Fund for infrastructure improvements, including new sewer piping and a water main serving underserved areas. The project will unlock 1,196 units, including 296 affordable units, addressing water supply and sanitary sewer deficiencies that currently prevent housing development.
Rockland County has also issued a Request For Proposal (RFP) for the redevelopment of the Sain Building site in New City, which was declared surplus by the County Legislature. The RFP requires at least 75% of units to be affordable for workforce and middle-income earners, with compliance with Rockland County Green Building Standards and Uniform Federal Accessibility Standards.
DataBank has launched a 20MW data center in Orangeburg, which is fully operational and nearly fully leased. The facility is part of the company's plans to develop a 40MW campus, with a second building due to come online later this year.
