A
historic English home with 300 years of history, including ownership by Sting, is on the market for $16 million. The property, known as Frognal, has been listed with Savills and is available for the first time in over 35 years. This Georgian-style home is believed to be one of the oldest surviving homes in Hampstead, London, dating back to the early 18th century.
Located behind a gated entrance and walled front garden, Frognal offers seclusion and period details throughout its three stories, including five bedrooms, two kitchens, and a roof terrace with views of the London skyline. The property's interior boasts arched windows, original fireplaces, and a unique blend of Georgian architecture.
"This remarkable home is one of the finest examples of Georgian architecture I've encountered," said Nier Gigi at Savills Hampstead. Sting purchased Frognal in 1980 with his first wife Frances Tomelty, during the height of The Police's fame. The property was later sold after just two years, but its memories stayed with Sting, inspiring a solo album.
Frognal has a rich history, having been home to Russian prima ballerina Tamara Karsavina from 1950 to 1974 and serving as a public house in the Georgian era. The property is Grade II listed, meaning it requires special permission for any changes, such as replacing windows. Its lengthy history comes with great responsibility, but also makes it a unique and valuable piece of London's cultural heritage.
