Santa Cruz County Recorder’s Office launches free online tool to warn owners of potential real estate fraud.

S
anta Cruz County’s recorder office now offers a free online alert system that notifies property owners by email whenever a document is recorded in their name. The service gives owners a heads‑up if a deed or lien—documents that transfer ownership or claim collateral—has been filed fraudulently or without permission. “Real‑estate fraud can cause serious harm and often goes unnoticed until damage is done,” said county assessor‑recorder Sheri Thomas. District Attorney Jeff Rosell added that his office will pursue all real‑estate scams. To sign up, go to https://www.recorder.santacruzcountyca.gov/ and select Fraud Notify. For news submissions, email [email protected]. Local coverage: UC Santa Cruz junior Ashley Palma‑Jimenez, a literature major, writes about overlooked stories.
