T
he Church of Scientology is poised to acquire the historic studio lot that was home to the Muppets for over two decades, according to reports. The 80,000-square-foot property, once owned by Charlie Chaplin and later by the Henson family, has been declared a Historic-Cultural Monument in Los Angeles.
Located on Sunset Boulevard in West Hollywood, the studio boasts a rich history dating back to 1919 when Chaplin first established it. Over the years, it was used for iconic films such as "The Dictator" and "Modern Times," as well as albums by Lady Gaga, The Weeknd, and Daft Punk.
A notable feature of the studio is its 12-foot-tall Kermit the Frog statue, dressed as Chaplin's Tramp. Despite the sale, the Muppets Studio will reportedly remain a tenant at the site. The Church of Scientology already owns millions of square feet in real estate assets across the country and has made headlines for acquiring large parcels of land.
The Henson family announced plans to sell the studio as part of their strategy to consolidate operations under one roof, combining their production studio with their Burbank-based Creature Shop.
