A
Lawrence County couple is sounding the alarm about a scam that targeted them and potentially other residents. Frank and Jean Smolkowicz reported that someone had listed their 14 acres of vacant land in Scott Township for sale on Zillow, using their names without permission. The scammers created a fake email and phone number to contact real estate agents, generating interest from several potential buyers.
The couple discovered the scam through their daughter in California, who received an inquiry about buying the property from a former classmate. Signs were even posted on the property, indicating it was for sale. Frank Smolkowicz noted that the scammers had gotten a lot of people interested in purchasing the land. The Smolkowiczes have reported the incident to state police and Lawrence County detectives, and the Zillow listing has since been removed.
