Second-Hand Office Building Secures Favorable Purchase for Goodwill Organization

Goodwill San Antonio expands beyond retail with purchase of Rosa Verde Towers, a new 11-story property.

G
oodwill San Antonio has made a savvy business move by purchasing the 11-story Rosa Verde Towers medical office building downtown. The 141,000-square-foot property was acquired for under $40 per square foot, allowing the nonprofit to allocate funds towards future renovations and expansion. The decision stems from Goodwill's growing operations in the region, which include numerous job training programs that require more space.

Goodwill's largest training facility currently occupies just 7,000 square feet, making it insufficient to support the number of people seeking training for jobs like nursing assistant, pharmacy technician, and commercial truck driver. CEO Carlos Contreras cited the need for a larger space as a key factor in the acquisition. The building will serve as Goodwill's local headquarters and administrative staff office, consolidating operations and improving collaboration and efficiency.

A capital campaign may be launched to fund renovations, which include reconfiguring the medical office layout to accommodate training spaces. Design firm RVK Architecture will oversee the project. Contreras noted that repurposing a second-hand building aligns with Goodwill's values, rather than constructing a new one. The property's accessibility by public transportation was also a key factor in the decision, as many of Goodwill's clients rely on this mode of transportation.
