49-story, $225 million luxury condominium and office tower called the Waldorf Astoria Residences is one step closer to becoming St. Petersburg's tallest building. The St. Petersburg Community Redevelopment Agency approved the project's move forward through the approval process at a meeting on Thursday. If City Council approves it, the building will surpass the forthcoming Residences at 400 Central, which tops out at 46 stories.
The tower, bearing the Waldorf Astoria name and St. Petersburg's first five-star branded condominium, will feature 164 condo units, 63,251 square feet of office space, 14,398 square feet of retail space, and 754 parking spaces. The condos will be on floors 19-49, overlooking a two-story amenity deck with an outdoor area featuring an infinity pool that wraps around the perimeter.
Designed by Cube 3 Architects, the ultra-modern tower will create an illusion that the top half is floating over the amenity deck. However, some neighbors from the Saltaire condominium expressed concerns about the project's proximity to their building and potential safety risks during construction. The City Center garage will be demolished to make way for the new tower.
The development team, led by Miami-based Property Markets Group and local companies Feldman Equities, City Office REIT, and Tower Realty Partners, is taking measures to ensure site safety. The project will appear before the St. Petersburg Development Review Commission next week.
