Texas Real Estate Agent's Companion Has Troubling Past

Texas real estate agent Ashlee Long's death linked to William Kistler, a man with a criminal history, and led to charges against Kendrick Finch.

W
illiam Kistler, a 26-year-old with a lengthy criminal record, was involved in a fatal shooting incident in Dallas, Texas. On April 5, Ashlee Long, a 28-year-old real estate agent, and her friends, including Kistler, were walking across the street when Kistler allegedly brushed his hand along a parked Mercedes. The driver, Kendrick Finch, exited the vehicle with a gun and opened fire, striking both Long and Kistler. According to police, Kistler reached into Long's purse and pulled out a gun before being shot by Finch.

Finch has a prior criminal history that includes drug charges and burglary. He turned himself in to authorities after the incident and is currently charged with murder. Kistler was also charged with unlawful possession of a firearm, a felony, and is being held in the Collin County Jail.

Prosecutors stated that Finch fired at least eight times during the shooting, which occurred on a crowded street with cars and people walking around. Finch's attorney argued that the shooting was an act of self-defense and that Kistler started the confrontation by trying to fight random people on the street.

Kistler has a history of misdemeanors, including theft, assault, and violating a protective order. He is involved in two ongoing legal proceedings, including a felony charge for burglary of a habitation. The victim's father, Henry Long, released a statement calling for Finch to stay behind bars and stating that his daughter's life mattered and justice should be served.

Finch was released on $500,000 bond after posting it on May 13. His release came after a judge denied a motion from his defense team to reduce the bond amount.
