Top Housing Markets in January Revealed

Several US housing markets emerged as the hottest in January, according to Realtor.com.

T
he US housing market was particularly lively in January, with several areas emerging as the hottest spots. Realtor.com's report identified these markets based on unique views and demand on their site, as well as how long listings stayed live. The top five markets were largely dominated by cities in the Northeast, with one city in Wisconsin also making the cut.

The Manchester-Nashua market in New Hampshire took the top spot, with homes selling after a median of 46 days on the market and an asking price of $579,000. Realtor.com attributed this to ongoing demand that has prevented inventory from recovering.

Hartford-West Hartford-East Hartford in Connecticut came in second, with homes staying on the market for 51 days and notching 4.1 times as many views per property as the national median. Kenosha, Wisconsin, landed the third spot, with a median listing price of $335,000 and a population of over 98,000.

Norwich-New London in Connecticut and Worcester in Massachusetts rounded out the top five, with Norwich notching 3.1 times as many views on Realtor.com's site and Worcester climbing one place to achieve No. 5 for January. The 20 hottest markets identified by Realtor.com experienced over two times as much demand as nationwide last month, with housing inventory averaging 12.7% higher than a year ago.

The national median listing price in the US dropped 2.2% compared to the same month a year ago, while the number of new listings rose 10.8% year-over-year in January and posted a 37.5% jump from December 2024.
