aty, Texas has been named the most popular zip code in the US by online real estate platform Opendoor. The city's affordability and job growth opportunities have made it a favorite among homebuyers. According to data from Multiple Listing Services (MLS), Katy - zip code 77493 - topped the list for having the total number of homes that went under contract within 90 days of being listed in 2024.

    Nick Boniakowski, Opendoor's Head of Agent Partnerships, credits Katy's rise to the top to its diverse housing stock at relatively affordable price points and job growth. The median cost of a home in Katy is $379,900, with a median rent price of $2,100. Other than affordability, Katy is also known for its rice farming, historical museums, and outdoor activities.

    Four Texas cities made the top list, while other locations in Florida, South Carolina, Oklahoma, and Tennessee also ranked high. Cypress, another community in Harris, Texas, came in second place as the most popular location for homebuyers. It offers residents job growth and affordable housing inventory, with a median cost of $404,577 and an average rental price of $2,500.

    San Antonio, Texas, came in third place, known for its blend of Texan and Mexican culture and historic museums like the Alamo. The area offers many jobs, including positions in aerospace engineering, accounting, and construction. New Braunfels, also a city in Texas, came in fourth place, with an average home rental price of $1,795 and a median cost of $350,682.

    Summerville, South Carolina, came in fifth place, offering not just affordable housing but beautiful scenery as well. The town is 35 miles from the closest beach and sits just outside of Charleston. Forney, Texas, ranked in sixth place, known for its small-town atmosphere while being close to major cities like Dallas and Fort Worth.

    Yukon, Oklahoma, came in seventh place, with exceptional schools and a median listing home price of $261,559. Clarksville, Tennessee, came in eighth place, considered one of the state's oldest cities, with an average rental price of $1,425. Parrish, Florida, located in Manatee County, came in ninth place.

    Kyle, Texas, also known as the pie capital in the state, is located in Hays county and came in 10th place. The community's home prices are significantly lower than surrounding areas, with a median price of $454,465 and an average rent of $2,750.
