resident-elect Donald Trump has nominated Art Fisher, a western North Carolina real estate broker and businessperson, as the US ambassador to Austria. This is one of five nominations announced by Trump on social media Monday night.
Fisher is president of Fisher Realty, his family's real estate firm founded in 1977 with offices in Brevard and Sapphire-Lake Toxaway. He has been a strong supporter of "America First" policies and has contributed to Republican campaigns, including donating $8,300 to the National Republican Senatorial Committee and several Senate candidates.
Fisher is also a member of the Trumpettes, a group dedicated to electing Trump, and has traveled extensively, visiting all seven continents and about 100 countries. He graduated from the College of Charleston with degrees in business administration and corporate communications.
As ambassador, Fisher would serve as the personal representative of the president and chief representative of the US government to Austria. His nomination must be confirmed by the Senate before he can take office.
Trump also announced nominations for ambassadors to Japan, Uruguay, Luxembourg, and the Dominican Republic: George Glass, Lou Rinaldi, Stacey Feinberg, and Leah Francis Campos, respectively.
