A
recent Redfin survey found that housing affordability is a significant issue for Trump supporters heading into the 2024 election, but it's not their top priority. While 29% of early Trump voters cited housing costs as a factor in their decision, they are more concerned with everyday expenses like groceries and gas.
In contrast, 43% of Harris supporters emphasized housing affordability, particularly in high-cost blue areas where skyrocketing home prices are a major concern. For Trump voters, the path to homeownership is tied to broader economic issues, including inflation, affording rent, and saving for a down payment.
The survey revealed that among all voters, economic factors like the cost of living and inflation were top concerns, with 63% citing the economy as the most important issue. Housing affordability ranked lower on the list. There was also a divide in expectations for mortgage rates, with more voters believing Trump's election would lead to lower rates compared to Harris.
