Trump's D.C. Dealmakers: Key Players in His Real Estate Circle

Trump's appointees include relatives and executives with potential conflicts of interest.

P
resident-elect Donald Trump's real-estate background has sparked hope among industry professionals, despite his campaign promises that could raise construction costs. At a Miami conference after his win, attendees were optimistic due to his familiarity with the sector and potential appointments of fellow developers.

One such nominee is Scott Turner, chosen for Secretary of Housing and Urban Development (HUD). A former NFL player, Turner has no government experience but was involved in promoting Opportunity Zones under Ben Carson at HUD. His appointment raises concerns about steering federal dollars to a network of personal connections.

Another nominee is Howard Lutnick, who could become the Secretary of Commerce if confirmed. As CEO of Cantor Fitzgerald, an investment bank with significant stakes in crypto and commercial real estate, he may face conflicts of interest in his new role. Lutnick has advised Trump on tax cuts and has a close relationship with him.

Charles Kushner, Jared's father, is also being considered for the U.S. ambassador to France. With no government experience but a history of shady business dealings, including prison time for extortion, Kushner's appointment could bring more investment from sovereign wealth funds into his family's company.
