A long-standing standoff between a tenant and a real estate developer has escalated. Eric Abrams, 64, refuses to leave his apartment at 2651 Broadway, where he's lived for 21 years. Klosed Properties bought the building in 2021 for $15.5 million, but Abrams won't budge despite offers of alternative housing and a $500,000 buyout.

Abrams faces significant physical and mental challenges, which has led his lawyer to accuse Klosed Properties of harassment by shutting down the elevator and removing fire safety systems. The developer claims it's just trying to get work done. Both parties have filed lawsuits against each other.

The annual New Year's Eve fireworks display in Central Park has been canceled due to drought conditions. Prospect Park fireworks have also been scrapped. NYC Parks Commissioner Sue Donoghue cited the risk of brush fires in drier-than-normal conditions as the reason for the cancellation.

A man accused of shooting his former boss on the Upper West Side in November has been indicted on charges of attempted murder, assault, and attempted assault. Eduardo Diaz, 42, allegedly sent threatening messages to his boss before attempting to shoot him at close range. The victim survived despite being hit multiple times. Diaz was arrested the next day at his home in Queens.
