isionworks, a renowned eyewear company, has decided to downsize its operations by relocating to a more compact facility in Far North Central San Antonio. The company plans to occupy approximately 30,000 square feet of space in the RidgeWood Park Office Campus located at 19100 Ridgewood Parkway. This move will see Visionworks vacate its current 150,000-square-foot premises in IBC Centre I and II, as reported by the San Antonio Business Journal. The company expects to complete this transition by the end of 2024.

According to a spokesperson for Visionworks, the decision to downsize is part of a broader trend among businesses to reassess their need for large office spaces. This shift has been driven by the increasing prevalence of remote work arrangements, which have led many companies to reduce their physical footprint.

The RidgeWood Park Office Campus is a two-building complex spanning 618,000 square feet and is anchored by Marathon Petroleum Corporation. The property features two high-rise elements: a 14-level tower known as Building I and a seven-level tower referred to as Building II. The complex was completed in 2009.

While some companies are choosing to leave downtown areas, there are also signs of renewed interest in these locations. For instance, the University of Texas at San Antonio has recently announced plans to purchase an 18-story office building at 700 North Saint Marys Street. The building will be used to house academic departments and support staff.

In May, Amegy Bank revealed plans to increase its office footprint by moving its Central Texas headquarters to a 28-story building at 300 Convent Street. This move represents a 35% increase in the bank's San Antonio office footprint.

These developments reflect a broader trend of companies reevaluating their need for large office spaces. As remote work becomes more prevalent, businesses are looking for ways to optimize their physical footprint while still maintaining a strong onsite presence for employees who prefer or require it.
