T
he First Baptist Church in Wakefield, MA has been rebuilt after a devastating 7-alarm fire destroyed its historic building on October 23, 2018. The new church was designed by LDa Architecture & Interiors and constructed by Groom Construction, Co., Inc.
Groundbreaking for the project took place in April 2023, with the goal of creating a space that meets the needs of the congregation today. The new building features open and airy spaces in the Fellowship Hall and Sanctuary, which can be used for various activities such as Sunday worship, concerts, classes, and community events. Dedicated areas are also available for infants, toddlers, children, and teens.
The church's hospitality kitchen and lounge provide a space for serving refreshments during services and events. The new building is designed to serve the thriving multi-generational congregation and support current ministries that benefit the local, national, and global communities.
"We're thrilled with how the church turned out," said Elaine Pappas, Building Team Chair. "The new building has not only restored the architectural void left in Wakefield Center but has also attracted a vibrant group of people for spiritual and community activities."
Pastor Douglas Dry added, "God is doing a new thing at First Baptist. The new building represents a new energy, focus, and strategy to connect the next generations to the love and life of Jesus."
