Wanamingo School Board Approves Sale of Historic Building

Kenyon-Wanamingo School Board votes to close Wanamingo elementary school site in fall 2025.

T
he Kenyon-Wanamingo School Board held an emergency meeting on Saturday morning to discuss two offers on the Wanamingo school building, which is currently for sale. According to Superintendent Beth Giese, the board accepted a local family's offer to purchase the property and potentially establish a childcare or adult daycare program. This development comes as the district prepares to close the Wanamingo elementary school site in 2025, relocating kindergarten through fourth-grade students to Kenyon.

Giese explained that the emergency meeting was necessary due to the time-sensitive nature of the sale. The board convened on Saturday instead of Sunday, allowing them to make a decision before the Wanamingo City Council meeting on Monday. This move will enable the district to continue growing and developing the community of Wanamingo.
