A
second Wawa is poised to join the convenience store chain's growing presence in Hanover, with a proposed location at 301 Eisenhower Drive in Hanover Borough. According to a real estate listing from Bennett-Williams, the site of the former Rite-Aid Pharmacy, which closed in 2023, will be redeveloped and anchored by a brand-new Wawa. The listing, dated February 2025, suggests that two additional tenants are being sought for the 3.5-acre property.
The redevelopment plans call for a drive-through quick service restaurant to join Wawa on the site, with space for approximately 3,000 square feet. Two possible configurations are presented in the listing: one featuring a 3,600-square foot retail space and another with a 1,728-square foot commercial space that could accommodate a garage or car wash.
The real estate firm is advertising the site to attract potential tenants, but the redevelopment has yet to appear in local municipal minutes. In April 2024, the property was presented to the Hanover Borough Zoning Hearing Board for a special exception hearing, which approved the proposal to divide the existing building into multiple tenant spaces with conditions.
Wawa's expansion plans are underway, with the first location in the Hanover area opening in Penn Township on February 27, 2025. The company aims to open 5-7 more locations annually around central Pennsylvania, including up to 13 by the end of 2025. Another proposed Wawa location is planned for Route 30 in Straban Township near Gettysburg.
