ommunity members in three Wyandotte County districts may receive refunds on their 2024 Real Estate Tax Statements due to lower total levies. The Unified Government of Wyandotte County announced that the 2024 tax statements for Kansas City, Kansas, Community College, Kaw Valley Drainage District, and Wolcott Drainage District will be updated with reduced totals.
The districts in question exceeded revenue-neutral status in their 2025 budgets, prompting a review by county leaders. According to state law, the County Clerk must reduce the levy to comply with existing statutes. The Unified Government has initiated a recalculation of levies and notified the affected districts.
Taxpayers will be able to find updated totals on the myWyCo app once data is validated. Corrections will also be reflected in the second 2024 Real Estate Tax Statements mailed in April 2025. On average, taxpayers can expect a $20 difference, which will either be credited to their second payment or refunded if paid in full.
The Unified Government has taken steps to address errors in the submitted budgets and ensure accurate records are updated. County Administrator David Johnston noted that state revenue-neutral legislation has caused confusion among several Kansas counties.
